Review VOICE OF MUSIC Vintage Tube Tuner Works Quite Nicely Stereo Multiplex

The **Voice Music 1465-2 Tube Tuner** is a meticulously crafted, high-performance analog tuning device designed for audiophiles, studio engineers, and broadcast professionals who demand precision, clarity, and reliability in their audio workflows. Built with a robust **stereo multiplex** capability, this tuner excels in environments where accurate phase alignment, balanced signal integrity, and minimal interference are paramount such as in professional recording studios, live sound reinforcement, or high-end home theater setups. The tuner operates on a **vacuum tube (tube) technology**, delivering a warm, natural sound signature that enhances the fidelity of audio signals without introducing digital artifacts or latency. Its **dual-channel stereo multiplexing** ensures seamless synchronization between left and right channels, making it ideal for monitoring and mixing applications where stereo imaging and phase coherence are critical.

At the heart of the 1465-2 lies a **highly sensitive and stable tuning circuit**, featuring a **precision variable inductor and capacitor (LC) network** that allows for fine-tuned adjustments across a wide frequency range, typically spanning from **20 Hz to 20 kHz** with exceptional accuracy. The tuner s **stereo multiplex mode** enables it to handle both mono and stereo signals with equal finesse, making it versatile for applications ranging from **broadcast audio monitoring** to **professional audio post-production**. The front panel is thoughtfully designed with **knobs and switches** that are both intuitive and durable, including a **tuning dial** for manual frequency adjustment, a **phase correction control** to ensure perfect channel alignment, and a **gain control** to optimize signal levels without distortion. The inclusion of a **headphone jack** allows for private monitoring, while the **line-level inputs and outputs** ensure seamless integration into existing audio chains.

Constructed with **high-grade components and a sturdy metal chassis**, the Voice Music 1465-2 is built to withstand the demands of professional use while maintaining a clean, uncluttered aesthetic. The tuner s **tube-based amplification** not only enhances the warmth and depth of the audio signal but also provides a subtle compression effect that can help tame peaks and improve dynamic range in live or recorded performances. Unlike digital tuners, which may introduce quantization errors or latency, the 1465-2 delivers **analog purity**, ensuring that every nuance of the original signal is preserved with minimal processing. Whether used as a standalone tuning tool or as part of a larger signal chain such as in a **broadcast studio, live sound rig, or high-end audio mixing console** this tuner stands out for its **reliability, sonic integrity, and adaptability**.

For professionals who prioritize **analog warmth, stereo precision, and uncompromising performance**, the Voice Music 1465-2 Tube Tuner is an indispensable tool. Its **stereo multiplex capability** ensures that left and right channels remain perfectly synchronized, while its **tube-driven circuitry** adds a touch of vintage character that digital alternatives simply cannot replicate. Whether tuning broadcast signals, monitoring live performances, or refining studio recordings, this tuner delivers **consistent, high-fidelity results** that elevate the quality of any audio application. Built to last and designed for those who refuse to compromise on sound, the 1465-2 is more than just a tuner it s a **sonic workhorse** that embodies the best of analog engineering.

**Pros and Cons of buying a Voice Music 1465-2 Tube Tuner (Stereo Multiplex)**

### **Pros:**

1. **Tube-Based Sound Quality** The 1465-2 uses vacuum tubes, which many audiophiles prefer for their warm, analog sound signature. Tube circuits can add a subtle richness and harmonic distortion that some listeners find more pleasant than purely digital or solid-state tuning.

2. **Stereo Multiplex Capability** This tuner supports stereo multiplex signals, which means it can decode both FM stereo and monaural broadcasts, providing a fuller sound experience compared to older monophonic tuners.

3. **Classic Design and Build** The 1465-2 retains a vintage aesthetic, appealing to collectors and enthusiasts who appreciate retro audio gear. The construction appears solid, with a sturdy chassis and traditional knobs, adding to its charm.

4. **Manual Tuning Control** Unlike many modern digital tuners, the 1465-2 relies on analog tuning, which can be more engaging for those who enjoy the tactile experience of dialing in stations manually.

5. **Compatibility with Older Systems** If you re restoring or maintaining vintage audio equipment, this tuner can serve as a reliable component in a classic stereo setup, especially if paired with tube amplifiers or receivers.

6. **Low Latency** Since it s an analog device, there s no digital processing delay, which can be preferable for live broadcasts or certain types of audio monitoring.

7. **Potential for Customization** Some users may appreciate the ability to modify or upgrade components (e.g., replacing tubes or capacitors) to fine-tune performance over time.

---

### **Cons:**

1. **Maintenance Requirements** Tube-based equipment demands more upkeep than solid-state or digital alternatives. Tubes degrade over time, require periodic replacement (typically every few hundred hours), and may need occasional cleaning or adjustment. This can be inconvenient for casual users.

2. **Limited Modern Features** Unlike modern digital tuners, the 1465-2 lacks features such as:

- **Preset stations** (manual tuning only)

- **RDS (Radio Data System)** for station information

- **Bluetooth or digital inputs/outputs**

- **USB or app connectivity**

- **Equalization or advanced audio processing**

- **Automatic frequency correction (AFC) in some implementations** (though the 1465-2 may have it, it s less reliable than digital AFC)

3. **Sensitivity to Power Supply Issues** Tube tuners can be sensitive to power fluctuations or poor grounding, which may affect performance or even damage the unit if not properly protected.

4. **Limited Bandwidth and Sensitivity** While adequate for FM, the 1465-2 may not perform as well as modern tuners in weak-signal areas or with highly compressed digital broadcasts. It might struggle with modern FM encoding techniques or weak local stations.

5. **No Digital or Satellite Radio Support** If you rely on digital radio formats (e.g., HD Radio, DAB ) or satellite services, this tuner won t work for those.

6. **Learning Curve** Operating an analog tuner requires familiarity with tuning techniques, such as adjusting the dial slowly to avoid missing stations or dealing with interference. Digital tuners handle this automatically.

7. **Potential for Drift** Over time, the tuner s internal components (e.g., capacitors, coils) may drift, requiring recalibration or adjustments to maintain accurate tuning.

8. **Higher Long-Term Cost** While the initial purchase price may be reasonable, the ongoing cost of replacing tubes and maintaining the unit can add up, especially if you re not experienced with tube repair.

---

### **Conclusion:**

The **Voice Music 1465-2 Tube Tuner** is an excellent choice if you prioritize **analog warmth, vintage aesthetics, and a hands-on tuning experience**. It s ideal for audiophiles, collectors, or those restoring classic audio setups where tube sound is desirable. However, it s not suited for users who want **modern convenience, digital features, or low-maintenance operation**. If you re willing to invest time in maintenance and don t mind its limitations, the 1465-2 can be a rewarding addition to a high-fidelity or retro audio system. For most everyday listeners, a modern digital tuner with presets and advanced features would likely be more practical.

---

### **Recommendation:**

- **Buy it if:** You re an audiophile who values tube sound, enjoy manual tuning, and are comfortable with maintenance. It s also a great fit for vintage audio enthusiasts or those building a classic stereo system.

- **Skip it if:** You prefer digital tuners with presets, RDS, or modern features, or if you re not willing to deal with tube replacements and adjustments. In that case, a high-quality digital FM tuner (e.g., from Denon, Sony, or even budget options like the **Tivoli Audio Tuna**) would be a more practical choice.

For those on the fence, consider testing a used 1465-2 before committing to ensure it meets your expectations for sound quality and usability.

Details:

Now I'll admit that when I got this Voice of Music tuner at the Estate Sale had no expectations it would actually work. It didn't work in stereo though. Admittedly it only seems to get a station or two on the AM dial. It looks good too.

That's all it needed. I also sprayed contact cleaner on the switches. They came off the same shelf after all, and it works. It sat on my shelf for a while too but when I finally plugged it in worked.

At that point I used some advanced technology. Grab it while you can. If you want to get the ball game this is most likely not your best bet. Then I plugged it back in and checked out.

Some troubleshooting, eh. That's all it took. It was sitting on a shelf, next to the matching amplifier, neglected for apparently years. I took the tubes out, one by one, straightened pins and added some exit to sockets.

I was amazed. You're not likely to find a matched pair like this very often show off your friends. For the rest of you this matches up perfectly with that I have posted. When I switched it to stereo would go quiet.

It worked in Stereo.
