Review WESTERN ELECTRIC 163781 Relay Vacuum Tube Tested

The Western Electric 163781 relay vacuum tube is a remarkable piece of historical engineering, showcasing the ingenuity and innovation of the early days of electronic technology. This particular relay tube, model number 163781, is a testament to the durability and reliability that characterized the products of Western Electric, a subsidiary of American Telephone and Telegraph Company (AT&T).

The Western Electric 163781 relay vacuum tube is a mercury-vapor type relay, which operates by controlling the flow of electric current. It consists of an evacuated glass envelope containing two electrodes: a cathode and an anode. The cathode is coated with a material that emits electrons when heated, and the anode is positioned opposite the cathode. When a voltage is applied to the electrodes, the emitted electrons flow through the tube, creating an electrical circuit.

The mercury-vapor inside the tube plays a crucial role in the operation of the relay. The mercury vapor acts as a switching medium, conducting electricity when the tube is on and insulating it when the tube is off. This property allows the tube to act as a switch, controlling the flow of electrical current in the circuit.

The Western Electric 163781 relay vacuum tube is a significant historical artifact, representing the transition from mechanical switches to electronic ones in telecommunications. Its use in telephone exchanges and other electrical systems during the early 20th century was instrumental in the development of modern communication networks.

Today, the Western Electric 163781 relay vacuum tube is appreciated not just for its historical significance but also for its aesthetic appeal. Its vintage appearance, with its distinctive glass envelope and metal components, makes it a popular collector's item among electronics enthusiasts and vintage technology aficionados.

In summary, the Western Electric 163781 relay vacuum tube is a piece of historical engineering excellence that represents the pivotal role of vacuum tubes in the development of modern telecommunications. Its mercury-vapor operation, elegant design, and historical significance make it a fascinating item for both technology enthusiasts and collectors.

Details:

I also pack well. They will normally want to see the item and packing. In regards to the case cover then this grading means or sleeve is badly torn, scuffed, cracked and falling apart.

I make mistakes once in a while. We check and describe the as much of functionality can. Light scratching to the case cover.

I do not publish test results in the listing as what get, and someone else might get can be different. It is just my opinion and I would rather paint a bleaker picture of something than saying better.

I use a tv7 u military spec tester which is calibrated. Like new - used but no obvious signs of use. It is up to you make a judgment call and decide if worth the risk of buying.

Then I have not test it. Heavy scratching to the disc. Fully working.

Then they are not included in the sale. Cd record still plays OK. In regards to the case or cover, then cover is just holding itself together. Sorry for you having to read this but would be surprised how many people think the items come with my table or a part of anatomy that I have accidentally caught on camera.

If you're unhappy with an item. I am quite harsh on what is good and bad. That is what they are there for.

Cd still plays well. I am not a huge retail outlet.

Slightly heavier than above. Very good - used light scratching to both the case and CD record.

So this shows what I get, and you get may be slightly different. Low and weak tubes are unceremoniously thrown in the nearest trash can, unless they collectors items.

All tubes have passed the gas and short tests. Please realize when buying antique, vintage or used equipment that they cannot be in an absolute mint perfect condition, might need some service, now later. I take lots of pictures so you can see cosmetics.

I have 4 of these machines and all display a slightly differing value if test the same tube, as two testers are never.

Cd record does not play. If it does not say matched then please do consider them to be such. Whilst I endeavor to put tubes together from the same year and look same, this is not always case. It is impossible to describe every scratch, scuff or mark.

In photographs we occasionally use props to display items the best light possible. Fair - the CD. Record plays, sometimes skips.

Light and medium scratching. All tubes purchased have loads of life left in them.

Medium to heavy scratching. In these cases it is best buying on as if was broken. Vacuum tube testing I do not sell just passable tubes. Or have only gone so far to test it.

By buying on this item you agree to these stipulations and follow the instructions of post office, or carrier. I also sometimes use a Hickok 752 for testing if state any values they are guide only. So to recap may be good or above.

The numbers letters in parentheses are equivalents put to help people find correct tube. This is a process, and it takes time.

Please have a look at the pictures for cosmetic condition. I may have the same tube but from differing years matched up in test results, which means they cosmetically or internally look a little different.

Or if this is in grading regard to the case cover then there may be cracks torn has rips along its edges scuffed quite badly. Photos shown in this listing are of the actual item for sale. May be very light scratching but not noticeable or the case cover scuffed a little excellent ware to both CD record.

Rectifiers and diode tubes do not have trans conductance values. This means that I have tested something not to its full extent. Most have one. This offer is for a. If it does not say base, stand, table in either the main body of or title.

New - unopened brand new, sealed. When using the word matched it means in test results rather than cosmetic looks. If not fully tested, then items are to the full extent and may have something wrong that I discovered.

Use the zoom function and have a good look.

Via messaging. Cover is in good condition but has normal wear and tear. If I say untested.

If fully tested then that is what they are. So take a good look. Very good plus - used, some light scratching to either the case or CD record.
