These devices do not contain short protection mechanisms as that would make them extremely expensive to produce and that function is better cheaper served by modifying the tester itself with proper fusing at the 83 socket if so desired. 2v, or hickok model numbers without the a, b, c or other designation since this ss replacement acts like a true 83 tube I would expect it to perform as such in any device needing an 83 tube, however I have only tested service in hickok standard and TV 7 devices.

The chance of short circuit is extremely low and is probably equal to or less than an old 83, or other parts of the tester, having some mechanical or other failure as any electronic device can.
